Due to recent growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Paralegal join the firm in Melbourne.

Job tasks and responsibilities

The full time role of a Paralegal involves assisting lawyers in all legal services to clients. This includes written communication, client liaison, preparation of court documents and legal administration. A Paralegal will work closely with the principals and lawyers in all matters and will have differing levels of independence based on experience and the matter.

Under the supervision of the Managing Director, Principals at the firm, and the Senior Lawyers you will:

  • Drafting of documents as required;
  • Take initial instructions from clients;
  • Prepare client and court documents;
  • Engaging with other parties in the management of a matter; * Preparation of bill of costs and detailed invoicing;
  • Liaise with counsel which may including instructing during a hearing;
  • Taking notes during initial client consultations or during telephone calls; * Filing paperwork for various files;
  • Going to court to file documents or instruct;
  • Opening files using checklist;
  • Closing files using checklist;
  • Indexing litigation files;
  • Researching cases for use on the database and website; and
  • All other legal and administrative work if and when required including in a wide range of practice areas with a focus on wills and estates and employment, which may include property and relationship matters.

Skills and experience

Required abilities and dispositions:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification preferred but not necessary * good written and oral communication;
  • sound legal reasoning; and
  • works well under pressure.
