WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA), a planning and commissioning body, is a unique partnership of like-minded and committed organisations dedicated to building a robust and responsive patient centred primary health and social care system. Outcomes are achieved through innovative and meaningful partnerships at the local and state-wide level.

WAPHA is built on the guiding principle of ‘value for the patient’ and the need to reduce fragmentation in primary health, improve patient outcomes and ensure genuine and respectful engagement with clinicians and communities.

As of 1 July 2015 WAPHA commenced operating the three new Western Australian Primary Health Networks (PHNs) – Perth North, Perth South and Country WA. These three WA PHNs are part of the Commonwealth Government’s initiative in the reform of primary healthcare.

We are currently seeking a full time Policy Officer. The Policy Officer researches, analyses and develops policies, position statements and strategies that reflect the priorities of WAPHA. This position assists WAPHA to advocate on behalf of primary care through submissions to government reviews and enquiries, drives WAPHA’s policy stance through the corporate communications strategy and contributes to WAPHA’s capability with regard to engaging key stakeholder groups. The position assists WAPHA position itself as the ‘voice’ of primary care working with staff and external partners to enhance a common vision across the sector.

This is a fulltime position on a limited term contract to 30 June 2018.

The successful candidate will meet the following selection criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as commerce or health.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of health policies, position statements and briefing papers;
  • High level analytical and research skills including the ability to assess and critically evaluate evidence in the Australian health policy context;
  • Proven awareness of current trends, issue and policy in the primary health sector;
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication including the ability to adapt writing style to a specific audience and purpose; * Proficiency in information and communication technology.
